In 2022, 5,837 large trucks were involved in fatal crashes, marking a 1.8% increase from 2021 and a significant 49% rise over the past decade. The involvement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled also climbed by 3% from 2021 and by 24% over the last 10 years. Large trucks, defined as any medium or heavy truck with a gross vehicle weight rating over 10,000 pounds (excluding buses and motor homes), include both commercial and non-commercial vehicles.
